Stephan Hürlemann

Stephan Hürlemann is a Swiss architect and designer with his own studio in Zurich. He designs furniture and products and creates installations and architectural projects for brands such as Vitra, UBS, Sky-Frame and Hermès.

Over the past 12 years, Stephan Hürlemann has realised more than 60 design concepts. His work is often systemic and takes a holistic approach. Examples include the DS-21 modular sofa family (2016) for de Sede and the Appenzell handle collection (2018) for Glutz. The latter was added to the design collection of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich in 2019.

In collaboration with Ruckstuhl, Hürlemann has developed a rug series for 2023 that creatively addresses the themes of digitalisation, individualisation and product cycles. The 75 durable wool rugs made of pure new wool are manufactured by a tufting robot according to a digital data set and can thus be customised without significant additional effort. The idea is to create unique pieces that accompany their owners as FELLOWS for as long as possible. By scanning the QR code, all relevant facts about the carpet's origin, materials, manufacture, care, repair and recycling can be accessed. This digital ‘Fellow’ also facilitates resale, allowing the product to begin the next chapter of its life cycle. In 2023, FELLOW was the world's first interior design product with a digital product passport.
